This folder is available to anyone with the link so you can share it with your educators, mainframe clients, and student advocates who want to help us spread the word.
Technology today is so varied, how do you know where to begin? Students have time to learn about only a small fraction of what is available and actively being used in the world today. What you really need is a fun, self-paced online contest that exposes students to a wide variety of technologies that businesses around the world on depend on. We’re talking about the largest servers, the most secure software, and the applications that process credit cards, mobile banking, airline reservations, high volume retail transactions, hyper-secure blockchain and much more.
For 16 years, IBM has sponsored a global student computing challenge contest called Master the Mainframe (www.masterthemainframe.com) to introduce the topic of enterprise computing and the introductory skills needed for mainframe computing. Our Fortune 500 clients find it difficult to find and hire these skills and oftentimes look to the participants of the Master the Mainframe to fill internships and full time positions. This is both a contest and a learning experience that is open now through the end of the year. It is the easiest way to provide students hands-on experience with this industry critical technology and earn open badges along the way that they can add to their resume and differentiate themselves.

24 hours of students learning about mainframes!
We’re launching our premier student program with a 24 hour student-led Master the Mainframe hackathon at IBM Z Day. IBM Z Day is a free 1-day virtual conference for anyone and everyone! Our lineup of over 50 global thought leaders will highlight industry trends and innovation, and demonstrate how IBM Z is embracing open technologies, fueling digital transformation and reliably running the world – always open | on | secure. You will be able to follow along with a student leader to complete Level 1. During this event, IBM will Double the Donation to the UN World Food Programme, feeding 4 children for every student finishing.

It’s back! The largest student mainframe competition in the world has returned for its 16th year in a row. This unique, virtual contest is open globally to all students 13 years and above who are interested in gaining skills in a real-world, enterprise computing environment. Through the program, you can win amazing prizes, while developing critical skills that are in hot demand by the world’s largest and most respected companies. There is no experience required. It can help you land a career in a Fortune 500 company, and just requires a desire to expand your skillset!

Level 1 is accessible to any student, regardless of your prior experience. You will follow instructions and screen shots to learn about these enterprise systems and actually log on to a real mainframe. Plus, for every student taking the 1 hour to complete Level 1, Master the Mainframe will donate to #ShareTheMeal, feeding 2 children for a day! Not only is #ShareTheMeal the world’s first app against world hunger, it is also an initiative of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger.
