You are cordially invited to join us for our next Washington D.C. Area z Systems Council meeting on Thursday, October 4, 2018.  

The z Council is intended to be a forum for our z Systems customers to get the latest z Systems information from IBM, hear from other users, share their insights, network, and help grow the z Systems community.  Here’s what you can expect….

Our first speaker, Kavita Sehgal, IBM Cloud Private on Z Offering Manager, IBM Z and Ivan Dovgan, Full Stack Software Engineer, IBM Z  kicks off this exciting event and discuss IBM Cloud Private. They will start with an overview of containers on IBM Z, including some unique capabilities provided by the platform.  They will then explain IBM Cloud Private on Linux on Z/LinuxONE, including the Docker and Kubernetes  technologies used to support it.  They will even provide a preview into some exciting upcoming solutions such as Mainframe as a Service (MFaaS).

Our second will be Mitch Johnson, Senior Managing Consultant, IBM Z.  Mitch will be presenting IBM’s z/OS Connect EE. Using IBM z/OS Connect EE, cloud and mobile applications have reshaped the way enterprises and systems interact. The dominate standard for new application development for these new environments uses RESTful APIs for sending and receiving JSON formatted messages to backend services. IBM z/OS Connect EE provides a framework that enables new application development using RESTful APIs and JSON messages for accessing z/OS based services and data when developing new cloud and mobile applications for the enterprise.

Many organizations are moving to create a strategy around continuous integration and continuous delivery. Third presenter, Jennifer Velasquez, NA DevOps Leader, IBM Z will provide insight into how the mainframe can participate in DevOps initiatives.  She will discuss new methodologies and tools that help provide seamless software delivery.  She will also explain how IBM tools can work in conjunction with OpenSource utilities to automate testing and deployment.
