- “z Enterprise Data Compression”, Anthony T. Sofia, IBM
Abstract: Learn about the z Enterprise Data Compression (zEDC) support in z/OS and the different products that take advantage of this exciting hardware support.
About the Speaker: Anthony T. Sofia is a Senior Technical Staff Member in the z/OS development organization. He received a B. S. degree in computer science from Marist College in 2003, and M. S. degree in computer science from the Marist College in 2004. He subsequently joined IBM at the Poughkeepsie Development - “Language Environment (LE) for Dummies”, Tom Petrolino , IBM
Abstract: This talk provides an overview of the z/OS Language Environment component: where LE came from, what it does and can do for you, and some terms and concepts that may help you understand it better.
About the Speaker: Tom is a Software Engineer with IBM and has been working on the development and support of Language Environment since 1996. Prior to that, Tom was a developer on the JES3 component of z/OS.
- “Hidden Treasures of SDSF”, Ken Jonas, Rocket Software

About the Speaker: Ken Jonas has been working on the design and development of SDSF since 1987. He has also worked as a systems programmer and developer on various z/OS components. - “IBM Skunkworks on z/OS”, Steve Warren, IBM, Paul Taukatch, IBM
Abstract: Ever wonder what what cool and innovative things are happening in z/OS development at the IBM Lab? Come hear IBM experts talk about some exciting, new prototypes being built on z/OS. Ever wonder what we might be developing in the future? Or what direction we are heading in? Come see some demos of our latest technology and hear our thoughts on our potential new areas of development in the future. Interactive feedback is strongly encouraged!
About the Speakers: Steve is a Senior Software Engineer in the z/OS development organization. He has worked in a number of areas in z/OS development including the current technical lead for both z/OS BCPii and z/OS Client Web Enablement Toolkit components. Most recently, he joined the Advanced Technology Team in z/OS working on hot new technologies that z/OS may choose to make into deliverables in the future. Paul is an early tenure Software Engineer working in z/OS security and just recently joined the Advanced Technologies Team. He has focused primarily on security and was the former team lead and developer for Encryption Facility while also finding time to create cloud enabled cryptographic solutions for z/OS. A squiggle by nature, he is often late to meetings and enjoys the simpler things in life like being out in nature and climbing rocks.
