Open Mainframe Project Members and Community,
As we approach the halfway mark of 2020 (which at least for me, has felt like an entire year!), the excitement and collaboration on open source on mainframe continues to grow. There are many new technical projects and collaborations coming together right now (more on these in our next newsletter), but for this month we want to focus on our latest momentum announcements and virtual events over the next few months.
Zowe LTS and updated Zowe Conformance Program
Zowe has hit a new milestone in project growth and maturity, with the announcement of the first Long Term Support (LTS) release. The Zowe LTS release, which has been developed by the community of over 200 contributors, will offer vendors product stability, security, interoperability and easy installation and upgrades. This is a crucial step for Zowe, as it means Zowe will enter more into the production environments of vendors and end-users.
And with an LTS comes an update to the Zowe Conformance Program, with some new requirements and a move to align Zowe Conformance Program updates to Zowe LTS. The updated Zowe Conformance Program has added a number of new offerings that represents an overall growth in the downstream ecosystem. Downstream ecosystem growth is a sign of increasing innovation which comes with a sustainable upstream. Look for more Zowe momentum as we continue through 2020.
Welcome YADRO and SOFTWARE ENGINEERING GmbH!
We welcome new members, YADRO, the largest technology vendor in Russia with full-cycle in-house R&D, manufacturing and services and SOFTWARE ENGINEERING GmbH, providing the Db2 z/OS solutions for more than 40 years.
Both members are excited to engage with Open Mainframe Project hosted projects and members; look forward to more contributions and news from them.

Open Mainframe Summit – Now a Virtual Event!!
The inaugural Open Mainframe Summit is going virtual! From September 14-16, you will hear about the latest and greatest in open source and mainframe, including updates on the vast number of projects and initiatives.
We have extended the CFP to July 17 to accommodate all the additional interest. We also have sponsorship opportunities available with many unique engagement opportunities only available in a virtual event. Look forward to the full schedule to be announced by early August.
As always, we are working with the Governing Board and technical communities to find more ways to drive collaboration and engagement across the hosted projects and the ecosystem as a whole. If you see ways that Open Mainframe Project can help – feel free to reach out to me or come to an upcoming meeting and get involved.
Thank you again for your support of the Open Mainframe Project community! Hope to see you at Open Source Summit and the Open Mainframe Mini-Summit next week!
